AGU Bridge Program Student Application is now open
The AGU Bridge Program, part of the Inclusive Graduate Education Network, is an effort to increase the participation of students from historically marginalized communities in geoscience graduate programs. The AGU Bridge program provides students an alternative pathway to graduate school admission by giving them access to a common application system. As a professional member in the geosciences, we hope that you will support this effort to by encouraging eligible students to apply from your own departments or research groups within or outside of your institution.
Submitted applications will be circulated to our AGU Bridge Partners that have committed to adopting and practicing inclusive and equity-centered practices in their departments. The student application can be accessed by visiting the AGU Bridge Program website.
Students are encouraged to complete their application by March 31, 2022.

Belonging in Field Education Study
We are looking for faculty and instructors who are teaching multi-day residential field courses at field stations, marine labs, or geoscience field camps between April - September, 2022 to be involved in an NSF-funded study investigating the development of student sense of belonging in the field.
We invite you to take a 15-20 minute survey to express your interest in being part of this research study, by Friday, March 18th.
The study will include students and faculty in biology and the geosciences to understand the unique factors that build and shape a students' sense of belonging in the field. In subsequent years of the project, we will support faculty in a Community of Practice to co-create and embed practices and mindsets that increase inclusion and equity in the field sciences.
Being part of the study will be an opportunity to contribute to collective knowledge about how sense of belonging develops in field settings. In classroom settings, belonging plays an important role in students' mental health and well-being, academic achievement and motivation, institution-level retention, and is pivotal for the persistence of students underrepresented in STEM disciplines. We still have much to learn about the development of sense of belonging in field settings.
Eight or more courses will be chosen from the interest survey results, representing a range of course types, regions, disciplines, and students. We will contact all who completed the survey about their status by April 11, 2022.
Direct questions to belonginginthefield@gmail.com.
Networking opportunities with Global Network for Geoscience and Society
The Global Network for Geoscience and Society is a new organization that has a few opportunities for student leadership as members of our Steering Committee. You can help us by distributing the flier to students who might be interested in helping us develop fruitful connections between the geoscience community and the broader community that we serve. Read more on the recruitment flier. (Acrobat (PDF) 1.5MB Mar9 22) For questions, please contact Vince Cronin (Vince_Cronin@baylor.edu).
Upcoming free workshop opportunity for educators
Supporting Marine Earth Observation Educators (online) Workshop:
There is an upcoming workshop opportunity for educators who use satellite data in their teaching, mentoring, and training. The purpose of this training workshop is to share knowledge, skills, resources and training techniques so that attendees are able to independently train others on available Earth Observation (EO) data and tools. During the course, participants will work with others to create their own (learning) artefacts. This is an interactive knowledge exchange workshop, not a technical training event. The course will be a total of about 25 hours spread across 3 weeks with different timings to accommodate different time zones.
- Date: May 30 - June 17, 2022
- Apply by April 3, 2022
