Description:
Human alteration of the landscape has increased the threat posed to biodiversity and increased the challenge of land conservation. In this webinar, Dr. Dennis Liu from the E.O. Wilson Foundation and Matthew Heard from Belmont University explore how we can use geospatial data and tools to better understand biodiversity distribution patterns, threats to biodiversity, and how to best protect land moving forward. The webinar will also include information about the education and outreach work of the E.O. Wilson Foundation, their Half-Earth Project, and their Ambassador Program. In addition, participants will be introduced to Matt Heard's Project EDDIE module examining how we can use citizen science data and open access GIS software to understand the distribution and potential impacts of invasive species.
Webinar Goals:
By the end of the event attendees will:
- Have an introduction to how students and faculty can use geospatial data and tools to understand biodiversity conservation and loss
- Explore the work of the E.O. Wilson Foundation, the Half-Earth Project, and their Ambassador Program
- Learn more about Project EDDIE Assessing the Risk of Invasive Species Using Community Science Data module on invasive species and community science data
- Gain ideas for how you can adapt these two sets of data and approaches into your classroom.

Format: The event will take place through a Zoom Meeting screen-sharing session. The presentation will be recorded.
