The Department of Earth and Climate Sciences (EACS) and the Department of Physics and Astronomy (PA) at Bates College invite applications for a full-time (five courses) Visiting Assistant Professor in Climate Modeling for the academic year 2022-23. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to the success of historically underrepresented, marginalized and first-generation students are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for teaching excellence in a vigorous undergraduate program, have a good knowledge of/experience with inclusive pedagogies, and welcome the opportunity to mentor serious students and advise senior theses. Field-based, computational, and analytical laboratory projects, and collaboration with departmental colleagues offer a wide range of instructional opportunities.

The successful candidate will teach 5 classes and contribute to the curricula of EACS and PA through climate modeling and within their field of expertise. College wide facilities include a staff-supported High Performance Computing Center, Visualization Lab, Digital Media Studio, and GIS and mobile GIS capabilities.

Applicants should submit a cover letter highlighting the experience(s) that make them excellent candidates for a faculty position in the Departments of Earth and Climate Sciences and Physics & Astronomy at Bates, a curriculum vitae, and one statement addressing i) inclusive and evidence-based pedagogy, ii) their past and/or potential contributions to equity, inclusion, and diversity with regard to underrepresented groups, and iii) one or more examples of the candidate's research that could involve undergraduates. The search committee will request additional materials, such as reference letters, for selected candidates after initial review. Interviews may be conducted via Zoom.
