Description
The focus of our field camp is classic geologic mapping with modern digital tools. During the mapping projects in the foothills of the Alaska Range and the eastern Alaska Range you will acquire the skills to observe and interpret sedimentary, plutonic, volcanic and metamorphic rocks. You will use the cutting edge mapping app StraboSpot to create and manage your project and map with a tablet; the skills you need for mapping in the 21st Century. In the end, you will understand the geologic history of the mapped region, develop a tectonic model, or simply speaking, understand the bigger geologic picture.
This course includes field trips to Denali National Park and the Denali Highway.
