Since its inception, NAGT has been structured around geographic sections where members meet and interact at the local level to share expertise. In 2011, the bylaws of the organization were changed to allow the creation of Divisions, consisting of NAGT members from any section with a shared professional interest. This idea developed in response to a call to help isolated geoscience faculty at two-year colleges connect with their peers at other institutions beyond their local area.
