Description

This 5-week geology capstone field course is focused broadly on the evolution of the western North American Cordillera as an integrated tectonic system from Precambrian through Quaternary time. Students learn the geology of the Cordillera through a series of mapping-based exercises as they traverse across landscapes in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Through study of a large variety of rocks in diverse geological settings, students deepen their understanding of igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic, and tectonic processes. The field course involves camping the entire time in beautiful wilderness settings; meals are prepared by a camp cook.
