Description
The UAF field camp is a 6-week adventure based out of the capital of central Alaska, Fairbanks, combining traditional geologic mapping with a modern digital approach. We look at clastic and carbonate sediments, plutonic, volcanic and metamorphic rocks at three different locations in south-central Alaska: Healy, the eastern Alaska Range and the eastern Talkeetna Mountains. True to the spirit of the Alaskan wilderness, we will camp while out in the field, except for brief breaks in Fairbanks.
You will gain experience in rock unit description, mapping geologic contacts, identifying structural features (faults, folds, foliations), producing geologic maps and reports. You will use a tablet as map, compass, camera, GPS and field book and manage your own project with the StraboSpot app, acquiring the skills necessary for modern field work.
