Description

A six credit hour (6SCH) camp will be offered in two separate versions: (1) a traditional, in-person trip to the Bighorn Basin of Wyoming and Montana, and (2) a virtual Minecraft gamified format, serving student accessibility needs (travel, health, etc). We welcome applications from WSU and guest students from other colleges and universities. The camp is underwritten by the Woolsey Family Fund for Geology Field Camp, which translates to a camp fee scholarship (~$2000) for each participating student.

Other Important Information

Our in-person field camp is in traditional format, focusing on bedrock mapping. Students learn competence and self-confidence in working outdoors, independently and in groups, drawing inferences and conclusions from evidence, and trusting your own judgment and reasoning.

Our online gamified format (using Minecraft) recreates our field areas. You will be based at our virtual basecamp (re-creation of Mickelson Field Station). Exercises include four different re-creations of real mapping locations in the Bighorn Basin of Wyoming. You will traverse each area and map the bedrock geology on a paper map.
