Workshop Overview
Introduction
This Course Design Workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to develop a new course (or modify existing courses) to incorporate student-centered pedagogies using backwards design. Through three 2-hour sessions, facilitators will demonstrate evidence-based instructional strategies and guide participants in generating objectives, assessments, and activities that engage students with content and promote an inclusive classroom climate. In our first session, we will focus on backwards design and course planning. Our second session will guide participants as they develop student-centered strategies and aligned assessments. In day three, we will focus on evidence-based practices to foster student success through creating a supportive learning community. All sessions will include individual work time and discussion time to share challenges and successes, and to learn from others, and there will be brief readings or reflections to complete between sessions.
