The Bridge
- Teacher-approved marine education resources The Bridge is a collection of marine education resources available on-line, mostly oriented towards K-12 but overlapping with intro undergrad. Follow the link to "Data Series for Teaching".
IEDA (Integrated Earth Data Applications)
- Teaching with EarthChem Geochemistry activities for higher education *
- GeoMapApp A variety of GeoMapApp-related education activities and resources *
IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) *
- Lessons and Resources A sortable list of lessons and resources from Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology.
MARGINS
- Mini-lessons A collection of mini lessons from MARGINS, most of which use data.
NASA
- Global Maps Global maps of various earth parameters, animated to show changes over time.
- NASA's Find Teaching Materials' site:] Filtering for "higher education" plus "data," and "lesson plan" plus "model" turned up some interesting materials.
NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)

SERC (Science Education Resource Center) *
- Teaching With Data Oriented towards teaching introductory undergraduate geosciences.
- Classroom Activities These classroom and lab activities use data, simulations or modeling to teach geoscience topics. Examples include the use of model output, chemical analyses, remote sensing data, interactive data tools, or large databases.
- Using Data in the Classroom This site provides information and discussion for educators and resource developers interested in effective teaching methods and pedagogical approaches for using data in the classroom.
TERC
- The Earth Exploration Toolbook (EET) is an online resource that features chapters (there are currently 43 chapters). Each chapter features an online dataset(s) and an analysis tool and gives step-by-step instructions for accessing the data, putting the data into an analysis tool and conducting an analysis around some Earth science concept or issue. The EET chapters are written to the teacher and are intended to give the teacher enough information about the dataset and the analysis tool so that they can customize the use of the data and tool for use with their students. The EET won the Science Prize for Online Resource in Education (SPORE Award) from Science Magazine in 2011.
The CLEAN Collection is an online reviewed collection of educational resources for grades 6-16. The resources in the collection are reviewed for scientific accuracy, pedagogical effectiveness, and technical quality/ease of use. There are currently 510 resources in the collection. We have specifically tagged resources that involve students use of scientific datasets. There are 97 resources that involve students using data. 78 are activities, 18 are visualizations, and 1 is a short demo/experiment. You can see the list of these resources on the the CLEAN site
