Dear NAGT members,
This is a very difficult time for us because of the extraordinary pressure applied to institutions of higher education by actions of the new federal administration. Through efforts by the current administration to defund and dismantle the federal grant systems that support academic research and eliminate the Department of Education, some of you have received emails asking you to stop work on grants, or you have colleagues who have received those emails. I am so sorry.
I understand that you may feel helpless, that you are in an impossible situation. This is new and unexpected and unknown territory for all of us.
We cannot let this stop us.
Our independent, member-supported, professional societies like NAGT are positioned to push – to keep elevating and publishing and promoting the issues that are important to us and to the geoscience education community. We continue to publish your research on inclusive practices, broadening access, and more in the Journal of Geoscience Education. We continue to offer professional learning opportunities on important topics like mentoring for all students and webinars that promote and disseminate your work. We continue to advocate for Earth education for all. Thank you for being a member and supporting these efforts with your membership dues.
NAGT is here for you. And you can help us be an even stronger voice, because now is the moment to strengthen our community:
- Bring in new members! Encourage your colleagues to join our community today.
- Contribute to our efforts! If you have financial stability during this time, donate to our program fund to support our work.
I hope you can find strength in our community as we navigate these challenges together.
In solidarity,
Anne Egger
Executive Director
