Melanie Rodriguez is a 7
thgrade Science Teacher at Louis Armstrong Middle School in Los Angeles, California. She believes in getting students involved in the community and using practices that will help the students make an impact in the area around them. This award will be used to help the gardening club at Armstrong to plant a pollinator garden. It will include a variety of plants for bees, hummingbirds, and specifically cater to monarchs which are facing threat due to climate change. Her goal is that her students become lifelong learners and develop a scientifically based awareness of their relationships with the environment. She also hopes her students apply that knowledge toward building and nurturing sustainable, harmonious, and cooperative relationships within the physical environment and the community.
