NAGT: Earth education for all

Dear NAGT Community,

What a week! Many of us have been impacted by the Executive Orders issued in the last ten days and the uncertainty they have created. Many of us are wondering if we can continue with our grant-funded work, or if our programs that support underserved students will disappear, or, if you work for the federal government, if you will have a job and if it will be one you can be proud of.

Amidst this uncertainty, we can offer some solace and a refuge. NAGT is an independent, small non-profit organization funded primarily by member contributions, which allows us to continue our work in diversity, equity, inclusion, and access despite recent Executive Orders that seek to end these efforts. Our work in this area will continue, and it will have to grow while we are in a position to support our community. NAGT is here as a resource—whether through our professional network, Advocacy and DEI committees, or professional development events and resources. If you need a space to connect with others, access resources, or simply engage in meaningful conversations, we encourage you to take part in our community.

We want to assure you that none of our programming is going away. We will still offer workshops on Inclusive Mentoring and Supporting All Students. We will maintain our fund for Broadening Access to our meetings and professional development programming. We will still publish education research about equitable teaching strategies, intersectionality, and many, many other important topics that can inform our work.

If you are feeling helpless, or wondering how you can make a difference, consider what you can do through NAGT:

  • Get involved in a committee. Our Advocacy and DEI committees are both seeking members and their work is most directly related to the current situation. Nominate yourself for these or other committees.
  • Get involved in leadership. Our sections, divisions, and the national organization are all seeking nominations for new leaders for the 2025 election cycle. You can nominate yourself to help lead our organization through these times.
  • Gift a membership. Membership dues support all of the work we do and allow us to expand our community and our work. Want a student or colleague or local K-12 teacher to get involved in NAGT? You can gift them a membership to get them started.
  • Donate. Donations to the Program Fund allow us to put your dollars to use right away towards our current programming. Our organization has a Gold transparency rating from Candid: your donations are tax-deductible, and 83% of your donation goes directly to programming. Donate to the Program Fund today.

Thank you for being a part of this community, and know that we are here to support you.
