Teach the Earth Teach the Earth Header

Teach the Earth (TTE) is a portal to thousands of resources from dozens of Earth Education websites. Managed by NAGT, this portal supports teaching and learning about the Earth by providing online resources for K-12 and undergraduate educators in the geosciences and related fields. Resources include classroom activities, course descriptions and syllabi, information about pedagogical strategies, topical collections, and more.

Featured TTE Resource: Major Storms and Community Resilience

This InTeGrate Module prepares students to use one or more high-profile events as case studies to illustrate storm-related risk and resilience measures. Students explore storm preparedness in a chosen region, with a focus on risk assessment, management, and resilience. Then they analyze and apply information sources and data-handling methods, using case studies. Students conduct research on storm events and local impacts through various investigative, data-rich assignments and compile and review data relevant to assessing and managing risk for particular types of storm events. Finally, they simulate a Town Hall Meeting approach to assess emergency-preparedness and potential resilience within a community.

Rock Identification Experts Needed!

We are comparing how novices and experts represent information about rocks! We have data from over 200 novices, but almost no experts!

Participation in the study involves a fun task (comparing pictures of rocks) and a few follow-up questions. You can choose to complete only one or both parts of this two-part study. Each part takes about 15–20 minutes. For each part you complete, you will be compensated with a $5 gift card and an entry into a drawing for $25, $50, or $100. Click this link to participate in the study when you're ready: https://uwo.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1Aia4mR3i9KteOW.

This study has been approved by the Western University Research Ethics Board. The results will be informative for both our basic understanding of human cognition as well as our approaches to teaching and learning. If you have any questions about the study, please contact BrainsCAN Postdoctoral Fellow, Priya Kalra; pkalra7@uwo.ca at Western University, Ontario, Canada.
