published Dec 18, 2013 3:48pmThe Department of Geology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the geosciences and geoscience education beginning September 16, 2014. This hire supports the Department's commitment to collaboration with the Graduate School of Education and regional k-12 school districts.
The successful candidate's research and teaching will complement existing strengths and needs in the Department of Geology and have a significant emphasis in geoscience education. The position will connect with the School of the Environment and collaboration with educational institutions on and off campus is desirable. The candidate's research expertise is unconstrained yet a focus on geological aspects of the Pacific Northwest is beneficial. The candidate should be an excellent teacher who is interested in working with students of all academic levels. Examples of courses the candidate may be asked to teach include introductory geology, the department's classes for elementary and middle school educators, global environmental change, and courses reflecting the candidate's area of expertise.
Qualifications for the position include a doctoral degree at the time of hire, a record of externally funded scholarly activities and associated publications in peer-review literature and a record of teaching excellence. The successful candidate will make significant and balanced contributions to teaching, research, and service, including development of a nationally respected externally funded research program.
