Job Title: Program Manager – Careers and Diversity Programs

Reports to: Senior Director of Education and Outreach
Salary : Commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to:

  • Manage the development and operation of programs that enhance the career opportunities and career skills of GSA members, with an emphasis on students and young professionals and raise awareness of the opportunities for careers in all areas of the geosciences.
  • Manage the development and operation of GSA's Diversity Programs to enhance the opportunities for diverse geoscientists to participate in all aspects of GSA's operations.
    Specific Duties Include:
  • Manage and continually develop GSA's career program at the Annual and Section Meetings.
  • Manage and continually develop the On To the Future program in close collaboration with the GSA Committee on the Diversity in the Geosciences and the GSA Foundation.
  • Work closely with the E&O Director and other staff to integrate programs within the wider GSA setting.
  • Responsible for an entire program(s) within the organization to include design, planning, budgeting, project management, marketing, attendance, and evaluation.
  • Prepare project specific budgets as necessary.
  • Work with the GSA Director of Corporate Sponsorships to seek and obtain sponsorship/grants for programs.
  • Develop and advertise programs in appropriate publications and organizations including the GSA Annual meeting, GSA publications/website and/or external publications.
  • Organize representative GSA Committee meetings.
  • Respond to requests from GSA members, educators and the general public. Maintain a record of this correspondence.
  • Reconciliation of program budgets.
  • Attend and contribute to organizational meetings.
  • Arrange purchasing of program required resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Professional Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geology or related science preferred.
Excellent oral & written communication skills to a wide range of audiences.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, excel, access), ability to learn iMIS.
Ability to use Google products (Mail, doc, Cal).
Ability to maintain program web pages.
Grant writing experience preferred.

The selected candidate should be willing to travel at least two/three times per month. Qualified candidates will be subject to a background check.

Working environment/Physical Requirements

Extensive computer work—six or more hours per day; multiple projects and multiple deadlines that create a demanding work environment are standard; must be able to move and lift luggage, equipment and boxes.
