Position Title: Lecturer, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Position Number: F99598

Job Summary:
Lecturer in earth sciences, atmospheric sciences, and/or geology. This position is primarily teaching Earth Science Concepts for Elementary Teachers. It is a contract renewable (non-tenure track), 9 month appointment teaching candidates who are seeking the elementary teaching license.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a Master's degree or all but dissertation Ph D or Ed E in earth sciences, one or more of the earth sciences, earth science education or closely related field. If ABD, the degree must be completed within one year of hire at UNC. The successful candidate will be expected to have or demonstrate potential for teaching excellence in large college classes.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants with a documented track record teaching college classes in the topics of earth sciences for elementary teachers, geology, and meteorology. Preference will be given to persons who have received a teaching license with at least a concentration or minor in some field of science. The successful candidate should have K-12 science teaching experience. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in traditional classrooms, online courses, and leading field trips. Preference will also be given to applicants who can document research or scholarship interests that would allow collaboration with Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences faculty and students.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, life, and dental insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC employees who are employed as 0.5 FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position. Opportunities for summer instruction may be available.
