Looking Ahead: NAGT Executive Director Transition
published Jun 15, 2026 3:29pmDear NAGT Members,
This year is my seventh in the role of Executive Director of NAGT. I am grateful to serve as a leader of this organization that consists of so many dedicated, skilled, and engaged people who support Earth education for all. When I began serving as ED on December 1, 2019, we had no idea of the disruptions that would come in the following years as we abruptly shifted to teaching online and lost most of our opportunities to meet together in person. I have been exceptionally proud to serve as a leader of our organization throughout this time of rapid change for our discipline and professional societies: we have been able to make our voice heard and continue to provide support to Earth educators and researchers at all levels.
It is time, however, for a change in leadership. My current contract as Executive Director ends in fourteen months, at the end of August 2027, and I will step down at that time. I announced this decision to the Executive Committee in January of this year and worked with them to establish a timeline for the transition. This work started well in advance of the end of my contract in order to allow sufficient time for a thorough search to attract candidates who want to lead NAGT into its next phase. I look forward to working with the incoming ED next summer in order to make a smooth transition.
You will be hearing soon from the search committee, who will share a job description and let you know more about the timeline. Those of you who will be at the Earth Educators' Rendezvous this July can join me and other NAGT leaders on Thursday at lunch to learn more about why and how to get involved in NAGT leadership—I'm happy to talk to you then or at another time to share more about the position if you or anyone you know might be interested. If you will not be at the EER and would like to learn more, please feel free to reach out.
I continue to be proud of the work we do as an organization and will work as hard as ever to support our diverse, thriving, and inclusive community of Earth educators and education researchers over the coming year.
Very sincerely,
Anne Egger
Executive Director
