Geoscience Congressional Visit Days

Each September, several of NAGT's partner organizations organize a Geoscience Congressional Visit Day (CVD) in Washington, DC.  The CVD is spent on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, meeting with Representatives, Senators, and their staff to discuss federal support for the geosciences, including agencies and research grants.  Visits are scheduled and participants are accompanied by organization staff familiar with working in DC. The CVD is preceded by a full day of training and preparation.

The CVDs provide Congresspeople with tangible examples of how federal research funding and results impact constituents in their districts. Participants discuss grant support they have benefited from, research they have conducted and shared, and resources they have found to be valuable.

NAGT encourages members to participate in the CVD program.  Preference will be given to members of sponsoring organizations, but you do not need to be a member to apply.  AGU's September workshop in DC is a helpful and empowering program, providing excellent guidance and support. In addition, some travel funding is available for those who need it. Click on the following links for more information.

Enhance your STEM courses with MATLAB and Generative AI

In-person at Carleton College, Northfield, MN - October 26-28, 2025 - Apply by June 15 matlab workshop

A workshop for educators interested in enhancing their students' computational teaching skills with MATLAB and exploring the integration of Generative AI will be held in Northfield, Minnesota, from October 26-28, 2025. This three-day event offers opportunities to collaborate with peers and MathWorks experts on curriculum development and the sharing of effective teaching strategies.

Now in its 11th year, the Teaching Computation with MATLAB workshop brings together educators to learn about trends in teaching, share experiences, and develop curriculum that improves student learning, with each educator focusing on their particular course goals and desired outcomes. The workshops introduce participants to the newest trends in STEM teaching -- from flipped classrooms, to computational notebooks, to online grading. The 2025 workshop includes a focus on Generative AI (aka GenAI or ChatGPT). MathWorks staff and educator peers will be on hand to help turn what you learn into practical classroom approaches that draw on relevant MATLAB tools and features.

The workshop program combines training sessions introducing teaching tools, brief talks by educator peers, and group breakouts that account for approximately half the workshop, including dedicated work time to develop and evolve the course curriculum. Conveners develop the workshop program and working group make-up based on applicant interests and teaching focuses.
