Master's Program in Earth Science Education for Non-Earth Scientists

Are you currently certified to teach secondary level science or math? Are you interested in earning a master's degree while you continue to teach? Would you like to be certified to teach Earth science? If so – you'll be interested do know that Michigan Technological University is now accepting applications for the Fall, 2011 cohort of its master's program in Applied Science Education – Earth Science track.

This program is designed to prepare teachers certified in secondary science or math to pass the test for subject area endorsement in Earth and space science and become certified to teach Earth and space science at the secondary level. The 30 credit master's program includes online courses during the academic year and field or classroom-based courses during the summer. No prior experience or training in Earth science is necessary – the program leverages teachers' prior experience with science or math teaching and focuses on Earth science content and pedagogy.

Michigan Tech offers teachers enrolled in this program a reduced graduate tuition rate (approximately 33% lower than the regular rate). Additional scholarships may be available. The program is recognized as a path to subject-area endorsement in Earth science by the Michigan Department of Education.
