Freelance Writer Editor/Science

Want to shape the future of educational publishing? Words & Numbers, a leading developer of educational content, is seeking contract or freelance writers and editors to work on a variety of projects. Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • writing manuscript for science and engineering education products (print and online), grades 3-college
  • editing manuscript for scientific accuracy, tone, and style
  • reviewing manuscript for pedagogical appropriateness
  • providing feedback to writers
  • implementing client revision requests
The following qualifications are required:
  • a college degree in a scientific field and/or demonstrated ability to produce accurate, precise scientific content
  • experience writing and/or editing science content for students and/or teachers
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • attention to detail
  • ability to think creatively and critically, but also to follow required formatting and style guidelines
  • willingness to accept constructive feedback and to work with a team of other writers and editors
  • ability to meet deadlines and adhere to project schedules
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
  • experience teaching science, either formal or informal
  • experience working in educational publishing and/or instructional design
  • an advanced degree in a scientific field or in education/curriculum & instruction
  • experience in and/or knowledge of the use of multimedia and online content in education

Available openings include both freelance positions and in-house, hourly contract positions. All work is project-based; availability of positions depends on current project load and staffing needs, as well as the fit between interested candidates and the expertise required for a given project.
