Assistant Professor of Hydrogeology

The Boone Pickens School of Geology at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in hydrogeology with a specialty in formation characterization. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022. The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in geosciences or a related field at the time of appointment. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. The School encourages applications from candidates from underrepresented groups in the geosciences.

We seek a hydrogeologist proficient in modern theory and methods, including the integration and synthesis of geologic and geophysical data into hydrologic analysis, field data collection and analysis, and computer modeling. Background and expertise in sedimentary geology, including fluid-rock interactions and flow in heterogeneous media is desirable.

Additionally, it is desirable for the candidate to have a background in quantitative geospatial modeling, including geostatistics and machine learning technology. Capabilities for teaching hydrogeology, sedimentary geology, and well logging courses also are advantageous.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous, innovative, externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervise M.S. and Ph.D. students. Candidates will be expected to support the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment to engaging communities underrepresented in the geosciences. The successful candidate will collaborate as part of a diverse faculty with specialties spanning the geosciences and core strengths in disciplines relating to energy and environment. Collaborations with interdisciplinary programs are also encouraged.

The School has state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with analytical instruments and computer hardware and software to facilitate learning and research in the School's areas of specialization. The School has equipment for field acquisition of geological and geophysical data, a core facility for processing samples, and operates a field camp facility near CaƱon City, Colorado. The School has significant geochemistry and microscopy laboratories. The School also has licenses for a range of geologic modeling and visualization software systems. Additional details can be found under 'Facilities' in the 'Research' menu at geology.okstate.edu.

The application package should include a cover letter, a curriculum vita, contact information for three referees, and separate statements of research (2-3 pages), teaching (1-2 pages), and diversity (1- 2 pages); the research statement should include a brief description of how the applicant's research will interface with that of the School's faculty. Materials should be submitted to our online portal. For more information, please contact Dr. Todd Halihan (todd.halihan@okstate.edu), Hydrogeology Search Committee Co-chair. Screening of candidates will begin on November 24, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.
