Job Summary/Qualifications

The Department of Geosciences at Utah State University (USU), Logan, invites applications for a Professional Practice Assistant Professor position to develop and lead a new undergraduate program designed toward enhancing the geoscience workforce. This renewable term-appointment is targeted to begin August 2020. We seek candidates who fuse innovative learning pedagogies with applied geoscience training to advise, teach, and assess students in this initiative. The successful candidate will help develop and oversee the Geoscience Technology Workforce Pathways (GeoPaths) program, collaborative with Uintah Basin Technical College (UB Tech) and industry partners. Teaching responsibilities include delivering hands-on, applied courses to upper-level undergraduates as well as educational design and learning assessment for the GeoPaths program. Administration responsibilities involve managing the new GeoPaths program. By the start date, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or a closely-related field. Professional experience in environmental, government, and/or industry geoscience is strongly preferred, as is experience and motivation in STEM education.
