Three Full-Time Positions at University of West Florida
published Nov 20, 2018 8:27amThe Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering (HMCSE) at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, Florida, invites applications for three full-time 12-month positions in an area of STEM education. We are interested in applicants who have a focus in Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics. The college was recently awarded a Department of Education Title III grant to increase academic support and student success in key STEM courses through active learning strategies.
Curriculum Specialist (#12658T)
Applicants must have a Master's degree in a STEM education area or closely related field from an accredited institution. A Ph.D. is preferred. Other qualifications include: minimum 3 years' experience in higher education course development and instruction, broad knowledge of instructional methodologies, demonstrated expertise in active learning strategies and tools, and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will oversee daily implementation of activity tasks and assist in ensuring strategies are executed on time and on budget, supervise specialist positions funded by the grant, assist in evaluation of project initiatives, develop and offer professional development on pedagogical best practices, assist faculty in redesigning courses based on active learning and oversee pilots of redesigned courses. The appointment starts in January 2019. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
STEM Academic Support Specialist (#126590)
Applicants must have a Master's degree in a STEM education area or closely related field from an accredited institution. A Ph.D. is preferred. Other qualifications include: minimum 3 years' experience in higher education academic support services with expertise in best practices for academic support, familiarity with academic technology tools and innovative resources to support academic success and excellent organizational skills. The successful candidate will lead the development of a new centralized system of academic support for UWF's HMCSE, work with faculty to develop and/or redesign department-specific academic support, including Supplemental Instruction (SI), oversee equipping of STEM Success Studios, coordinate and oversee pilots of STEM academic support and use of new STEM academic support facilities, identify, hire and train Academic Support Leaders and supervise/evaluate Academic Support Leaders, and assist the Project Director and STEM Data Analyst in evaluation of project activities, including implementation of SI study. The appointment starts in January 2019. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
STEM Coaching Specialist (#126600)
Applicants must have a Master's degree in student affairs or closely related field from an accredited institution. A minimum 3 years' experience in advising, counseling or similar position, expertise in best practices for non-cognitive skills development, experience working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds and excellent organizational skills is preferred. Applicants may also hold a degree in a STEM or STEM education discipline, if they can demonstrate capacity fork, and experience in, student advising, counseling, and support. The successful candidate will lead the development of a new coaching system for students in UWF's HMCSE, work with faculty and staff to align coaching services with available academic and non-academic support, coordinate and oversee pilots of STEM coaching, identify, hire and train Peer Coaches, supervise and evaluate Peer Coaches, assist the Project Director in evaluation of project initiatives and assist in the institutionalization of new coaching services. The appointment starts in January 2019. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
