Geophysics Outreach/Education Specialist
published Aug 31, 2015 11:09amThe Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) has an immediate opening for a dynamic individual with broad geoscience education and outreach interests to join its national Education and Public Outreach Program. You would join a team engaging audiences ranging from the general public, to K-12 teachers, to undergraduate and graduate students and faculty. This Washington, DC based position involves a range of responsibilities including: coordinating development of mobile apps; developing and expanding IRIS social media presence; coordinating a public displays program; presenting at workshops and conferences; staffing IRIS booths at professional conferences; and assisting in the development of educational resources at the K-12 and undergraduate level.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of training and/or experience in: social media, mobile app development, citizen science projects, geoscience education, and geophysics including seismology. A graduate degree in geoscience, education, science communication, or related degree and/or equivalent experience, and excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are required. The candidate must be able to work effectively and collegially with museum staff, undergraduate faculty, teachers, members of the IRIS Consortium, and other educational partners. The position reports to the Director of Education and Public Outreach.
