NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Application Period Now Open

NSF is soliciting applications for the GRFP until the posted deadlines in late October and early November 2014. Since 1952, GRFP has provided Fellowships to individuals selected early in their graduate careers based on their demonstrated potential for significant achievements in science and engineering. Three years of support is provided by the program for graduate study in science or engineering and leads to a research-based master's or doctoral degree. The NSF expects to award 2,000 Graduate Research Fellowships under this program solicitation pending availability of funds.
The NSF expects to award 2,000 Graduate Research Fellowships under this program solicitation (NSF 14-590) pending availability of funds. For each Fellow, the institution receives up to a $44,000 award per Fellow utilizing the fellowship support in a fellowship year. The Graduate Research Fellowship stipend is currently $32,000 for a 12-month tenure period, prorated in whole month increments of $2,666. The cost-of-education allowance to the institution is currently $12,000 per year of fellowship support. Pending the availability of funds in 2015, it is anticipated that the stipend will increase to $34,000, as indicated in NSF's FY2015 Budget Request to Congress.

The purpose of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in science and engineering.
