NRC Call for Nominations - Federal Earth Sciences Education

published Feb 15, 2012 4:57pm
The National Research Council's Board on Earth Sciences and Resources is soliciting nominations for individuals to serve on its Committee on Trends and Opportunities in Federal Earth Science Education and Workforce Development. The study will examine federal programs and legislative mandates in Earth science-related education and workforce development; identify examples of successful STEM-related education programs and discuss approaches and criteria common to these programs; identify gaps in education and workforce development that could significantly affect recruitment of Earth scientists; and find ways to strengthen federal Earth science education and workforce development activities. The complete statement of task is appended below. This study is sponsored by the U.S. Geological Survey.

We are looking for nominations in the following areas of expertise: Earth science research (particularly in geology, geophysics, hydrology, soil science, environmental science); college-level STEM education; informal education (such as museums); workforce development; and research or education program assessment and evaluation.

If you would like to nominate someone to serve on this committee, please provide his/her name, institution, area of expertise, contact information, and any other comments no later than February 27, 2012 via email to Deborah Glickson (dglickson@nas.edu). We hope that you will also forward this note to others who may have suggestions for committee membership.

We want to thank you in advance for your contribution to this important activity. Although not all suggestions will result in membership on the committee, this process helps ensure that the committee is drawn from a broad pool of qualified experts. If you have any questions about the study or the nomination process, please feel free to contact Deb Glickson (dglickson@nas.edu or 202-334-2024).

Sincerely,
Anne Linn, Senior Program Officer
