Dear Colleagues,

We hope this note finds you well. Because of the current pandemic, this year's Early Career Workshop for Geoscience Faculty has re-opened its application until May 15 for those interested in taking part in the online workshop this summer. While this certainly presents some challenges, it also includes the opportunity for some faculty to participate who otherwise would not be able to do so.

We ask that you please help us spread the word to any and all of your early career geoscience colleagues who might be interested by forwarding the message below.

Thank you!
Caroline Smith
On behalf of the Early Career Workshop Convener Team

Dear Early Career Geoscience Faculty:

We are pleased to announce that NAGT's Early Career Workshop for Geoscience Faculty will be held as an online event this summer from July 27-30, 2020 (with optional events on July 31). While we will miss the face-to-face interactions of the workshop, the leadership is convinced that we can hold an engaging and impactful workshop that will maximize participation and provide a much-needed opportunity to share experiences with peers. Additionally, we expect the change in format and reduced net cost of the workshop will provide an opportunity for more early career faculty to participate, and therefore the application deadline for the workshop has been extended. Apply by May 15, 2020.

The Early Career workshop program is being developed to preserve many of the same opportunities for learning and sharing best practices in teaching, scholarship, and mentorship. Here is what you can expect from the virtual workshop:

  • It will be held on the same days as originally planned, July 27-30, with live activities held at times appropriate across multiple time zones and optional events on July 31.
  • The program includes plenary and concurrent sessions as well as time for informal discussion.
  • The program will still include a virtual visit to NSF.

We hope you will join us for the Early Career Workshop!

Sincerely,
The convener team, Sarah Penniston-Dorland, Josh Galster, and Ben Laabs
