The Department of Earth and Environment at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position as Digital Instructor, to begin in the Fall semester 2013. The position requires expertise in the development and delivery of online courses, as well as in learning theory and effective pedagogical techniques applied to university students. The ideal candidate will hold a MS or PhD in either in Science Education, Learning Technologies, or in an area of natural sciences, with advanced training in the technological and pedagogical aspects of online teaching and online course development. The position involves both teaching of online courses and service to other department faculty by providing instruction and assistance with regard to digital instruction techniques, pedagogical construction of online courses, and digital research methodologies. The successful applicant will also serve as the liaison between the department and University-wide administrative units for information technology and online teaching regarding digital platforms and delivery of instruction methodologies. Courses to be taught are in the general area of environmental science and sustainability studies. The department will support travel and professional development in "digital environment" areas of study, and salary will be commensurate with degree level and qualifications. The Department of Earth and Environment is an interdisciplinary department with undergraduate degree programs in Sustainability (BA), Environment Studies (BS), Earth Sciences (BA) and Geosciences (BS), as well as graduate programs. FIU is a Carnegie Doctoral Research-Extensive institution that offers over 200 academic programs in 12 schools and colleges and enrolls over 46,000 students. It is a comprehensive public, urban university offering degrees at the Baccalaureate, Master's and Ph.D. levels.
