Kudos for the NAGT Community
published Mar 19, 2010 8:42amMembers of the NAGT community have received several recent awards that speak well of the work we do together.
- Declan De Paor, Research Professor of Geophysics and Director of the Planetarium at Old Dominion University in Norfolk VA, is a recipient of a Google Faculty Research Award for 2010. His proposal "Visualization of Subsurface Geology in Google Earth" aims to develop Google Earth as a resource for geoscience research and education.
- The On the Cutting Edge Professional Development Program was just honored with the 2nd of 12 Science Prize for Online Resources in Education (SPORE). An essay about On the Cutting Edge appears in the Feb 26 issue of Science and there is a news release on the Cutting Edge website as well.
- NAGT's Executive Director, Cathryn A. Manduca, has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The distinction was announced in November 2009 and presented to Dr. Manduca at an awards ceremony in February, 2010.
Congratulations to all for their well-deserved recognition. If you know of members who have received awards for their work in geoscience education, be sure to let us know so that we can spread the word.
