UNAVCO

UNAVCO Logo UNAVCO is a non-profit university-governed consortium that facilitates geoscience research and education using geodesy. The UNAVCO academic and research community seeks to broaden human understanding of the changing Earth by integrating technologies, open geodetic observations, and research. UNAVCO is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and supports research around the world.

The Education and Community Engagement program focuses on providing training, educational materials and professional short courses to scientists studying geodesy. The program also supports formal education (K-12) and informal public outreach through workshops, curriculum materials, museum displays and social media interactions. UNAVCO Short Courses are offered to increase the capacity of the scientific community to process, analyze, and interpret various types of geodetic data. Educational Workshops promote a broader understanding of Earth science for college and secondary education faculty. Research Experience in the Solid Earth Science for Students (RESESS) is an undergraduate-to-graduate bridge internship program designed to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities in the Earth sciences.

Sites of interest to the Education and Outreach community include:

Educational Resources include classroom lesson plans, activities, and lab exercises for secondary education (grades 6 - 12) and undergraduate courses.

Data for Educators provides an interactive map with links to interesting hi-precision GPS data, visualization tools, and educational materials which incorporate this data to illustrate various Earth science processes.

Short Courses are offered to enhance the capacity of our scientific community to process, analyze, and interpret various types of geodetic data for current researchers, early-career scientists, graduate students, and upper-level undergraduates.

Educational Workshops are professional development workshops provided by UNAVCO as one-day to one-week-long workshops to promote a broader understanding of Earth science for college and secondary education faculty.

Research Experience in the Solid Earth Science for Students (RESESS) is a paid undergraduate-to-graduate bridge internship program designed to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities in the Earth sciences. Students can participate for up to three summers.
