2019 Rendezvous NGSS Tagging Camp

July 14, 2019, Nashville, TN

Sunday July 14
8:30 am - 5:00 pm

In association with the 5th annual Earth Educators' Rendezvous

The Application deadline has passed.

Participants selected for the new NGSS Tagging Camp will review and tag teaching materials developed through GETSI (GEodesy Tools for Societal Issues) with disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, cross-cutting concepts, and performance expectations from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This effort seeks to help educators find resources that are well-aligned with the NGSS to broaden their utility both at the undergraduate level in preparing future teachers and expanding their use to the high school classroom.

Applicants should be very familiar with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) (more info) and the Framework for K-12 Science Education , particularly at the high school level. Participants may be high school science teachers, undergraduate faculty, informal educators, or others who are familiar with the NGSS and willing to become familiar with GETSI materials. Up to 13 participants will be selected from those who apply for this activity. For this important activity, GETSI will provide a $500 stipend that will help to offset your travel and accommodations. Stipends will be distributed 4 to 6 weeks after the conclusion of the Earth Educators' Rendezvous. You must be present for the entire camp to be eligible to receive a stipend.

Expectations

Prior to the camp, participants are expected to:

  • Participate in an introductory webinar in early- to mid-June;
  • Complete tagging for one GETSI modules;
  • Review others tags for two GETSI modules.

During the camp, participants are expected to:

  • Refine their tagging based on feedback from others;
  • Complete tagging and reviews for one additional modules;
  • Help develop a list of ideas for incorporating GETSI modules into the high school classroom.

We expect that, on average, tagging all of the components of each module will take 2-3 hours.
