Figure 3. Streams and locations where samples were collected and analyzed for copper. Some streams drain areas where copper-rich rock outcrops at the surface. The sediment collected from those streams denoted by an orange star contain the highest concentrations of copper in the area. Further downstream, the concentration of copper decreases although it is still elevated above average copper concentrations (black triangles). Most streams in the area do not contain elevated copper concentrations. These data tell an exploration geologist what areas should be targeted for more sampling, both at the surface and below the surface.
