Preparing for Saturday

At this event, you will have the opportunity to try out some of your colleague's Investigation Plans. We will contact some of you ahead of time, but we are also looking for volunteers who would like for others to try out what they have planned.

This summer, we asked that, in addition to carrying out several "mini-lessons" during the school year, you implement two somewhat larger investigations with students. These investigations might be one or two class periods or longer, depending upon your goals, in contrast to the "mini-lessons", which we envision as short demonstrations or quick activities that may take only 15 minutes to complete.

On or before October 17, please complete and post your first Investigation Plan to the discussion area. To make this process easier for you, we have combined the two templates we gave you this summer into one revised template. In addition to the link below, you can always find the Investigation Template in the Investigation Resources section of the Web site. Even if your plan lacks a few details, please post what you have completed by October 17.

When you post your plan, please be sure to either post the data we would need to try out your investigation, describe it if it is student-collected data, tell us where that data is located if we already have it (like with an ArcVoyager project or with EET chapter data), or post a URL link to the data where we can download it.

Here is the combined and revised version (Investigation Template (Microsoft Word 37kB Oct5 07)) of the two investigation templates that we distributed this summer. Right-click on a PC or control-click on a MAC to download the template from the link. When you name your plan, please include your initials in the file name. You may want to refer to the Sample Plan in the discussion area.

Please use this revised template to document your plans, and complete the bottom part after you have implemented your investigation with students, noting any changes you felt you needed to make to the original plan. You will be sharing your implementation experiences later this fall. We are not expecting that you will have used your investigation with students before coming to our October meeting.

In addition to planning an Investigation, in our first online event we asked you to come up with a mini-lesson. As you implement these mini-lessons throughout the school year, we would like you to briefly post the data and the tool you used and what your lesson accomplished. You can find the template for posting these lessons at the link below.
