Global correlations of ocean ridge basalt chemistry with axial depth and crustal thickness
Emily M. Klein, Charles H. Langmuir 1987 Journal of Geophysical Research v92 p8089-8115

This classic paper quantifies and interprets global geochemical variations among mid-ocean ridge basalts. A primary conclusion is that global correlations between major-element geochemistry (corrected for fractionation) and axial ridge depth can be accounted for by 8-20% melting of the mantle at pressures of 5-16 kbar.
