This abstract for the 2001 Geological Society of America annual meeting lists distinctive characteristics of the proposed Tharsis superplume on Mars, and makes the case that these characteristics are similar to superplume events on Earth. (A superplume is a broad zone of mantle upwelling many thousands of km's across).
