Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning Through Research

Elon University

My current position at Elon University is as Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies; I was formerly the Associate Director for the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning here. I am currently serving as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Geoscience Education (2023-2026), and am a Past-President of the Geoscience Education Research Division of NAGT.

I received my Ph.D. in geoscience from Rutgers University in 2013 and my B.A. in anthropology and Earth and environmental sciences from Vanderbilt University in 2005. My research has investigated the effects of active learning techniques on conceptual geoscience knowledge and skillsets such as critical thinking and writing, student and instructor perceptions of course redesign and the implementation of active learning in introductory geoscience courses, and the dynamic landscape evolution of the Delaware River Valley in the context postglacial climate change.
