Geoscience Ambassador Humberto reached out to two youth programs for students from underserved communities: (1) a Catholic Church Youth Ministry and (2) Austin Youth River Watch, an environmental education after-school program. Humberto felt his contributions were deeply appreciated and found the young people open-minded and curious. They valued the resources and knowledge about career options that he provided. His outreach to the Catholic Youth Group was especially rewarding because he was able to bring the perspective of geology to contextualize issues of social justice, which is important in Catholicism, and to share where we (humankind) fit into the grand scheme of time and space.
