Students' Mental Models of the Environment

This qualitative study of noted that students' perceptions of environment can be categorized into four models. Most students, regardless of age, tend to have a mental model of the environment as "a place where animals/plants live – a natural place. However, a significantly higher percentage of urban students thought of the environment as "a place impacted or modified by humans", compared to their suburban and rural peers.
