This is the homepage for a freshman seminar course that looks at the perspectives on earth sciences since about 100 AD, comparing the different perspectives among the Greeks, Arabs and Chinese since antiquity, and finishing up with the geological debates in Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and the birth of the plate tectonics theory. This site provides the class syllabus as well as a clearly defined outline of learning objectives and outcomes for students
