The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Standards for Science Teacher Preparation are based on a professional literature review and on the goals and framework for science education set forth in the National Science Education Standards (NSES). These NSTA standards are intended as the foundation for a performance assessment system, through which teacher candidates must satisfactorily demonstrate their knowledge and abilities at stable assessment points in the science teacher preparation program. The standards address the knowledge, skills and dispositions that NSTA deems important for teachers in the field of science. These 2003 standards are available as a PDF file download.
