The use of computer games as an educational tool: identification of appropriate game types and elements

The authors had students play three different kinds of games: an educational simulation game, a strategy game, a narrative-driven adventure game, and a first-person shooter. Students preferred the adventure game and the strategy game to the other two. The authors broke the games down into elements and concluded that the most important are logic, memory, visualization, and problem-solving.
