Julia Koble, Georgia Learning Connections

This well-developed high school activity asks students to apply previously learned knowledge about chromosomes, DNA, RNA, genes, genome, DNA, transcription, translation, protein expression, and principles of genetics in order to explain how a specific gene results in a specific condition or disease. It also offers experience in using online medical/scientific bioinformatics databases to research real life genetic disorders. This activity includes Quality Core Curriculum Standards, National Science Education Standards, learning outcomes, an in-depth procedure, technology connection, assessment, extension, and suggested accommodation for students with exceptional needs.
