Biodiversity

June 14-19, 2015
Say "wow" to WOWBugs! Dr. Robert Matthews will lead us in the dissection of mud dauber nests during this SSEAT where we will learn to sort and classify the critters in these micro-habitats. Discover how to find and collect your own nests and maybe we'll see some WOWBugs along the way!

Energy's Innovations and Implications

July 12-17, 2015
During this SSEAT we'll visit the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), the nation's oldest physical science lab. Participants will explore NIST's Net-Zero house and learn about energy consumption and alternative ways for homes to produce as much energy as they use. We'll also visit the direct descendant of Isaac Newton's apple tree!

Earth's History and Global Change

July 26-31, 2015
We'll start behind the scenes at the National Museum of Natural History's meteorite collection learning how the Earth was formed and how it has changed over time. Through hands-on exploration teachers will learn about different types of meteorites and experience how they look and feel. Together we will learn how our solar system began, and how it continues to change!
